“I Quit” is an ongoing series of posts where women share the reasons for leaving their jobs. The series was started in 2021 during the pandemic.
As told to SaveYourSelf.biz
I haven’t been the best employee. I often missed several days of work. I called out on a whim. I wasn’t the most reliable employee. Historically, I have bounced around from job to job. My casual approach to work hasn’t helped.
So how dare I quit my job, in a fit of anger, with no safety net and no plan?
The short answer is, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was working in retail and my boss had it in for me. He was always on my case. I admit, I can be a hot head who doesn’t take criticism well.
The longer, more complex answer is, I know I can rely on my family for support. Every. Single. Time. They always bail me out. Every. Single. Time. So, technically, I do have a safety net.
Yes, I know that is a selfish response, considering I had to turn to them to pay my rent after quitting on the spot. Believe me, that conversation with my family did not go well.
In the end, I quit because it’s easier than growing up.
